Dental Implants West Bloomfield MI
What Are Dental Implants?
A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. If you compare natural teeth to implant-supported replacement teeth, you’ll see they have the same basic parts. Both have a crown (the visible part used to chew food). Both have a root that holds the tooth securely under the gum and is anchored into the jaw. The difference is that the implant is made of titanium – the same time-tested material used by surgeons for artificial joints. When you lose a tooth, you lose both the root and the crown. To replace the tooth, the surgeon first replaces the root with a small dental implant.
Time is allowed for bone to heal and grow around the dental implant. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. A support post (abutment) is then placed on the implant and a new replacement tooth (crown) is placed on top of the abutment. In many cases a temporary replacement tooth can be attached to the implant immediately after it is placed. If all of your teeth are missing, a variety of treatment options are available to support the replacement teeth.

“Don’t be afraid to Smile.”
For years I’d felt like a part of my body was missing — because my teeth were. My dentist told me that dental implants would make me feel and look a lot better. OK, I said. Now, I’m thrilled. I can smile, eat anything, and enjoy a good laugh with my friends.
Don’t Hesitate To Replace Your Missing Teeth
Surgical Advances
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Cohen is able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.
Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Dr. Cohen performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

All Staff has always, and continues to be very pleasant, friendly and helpful with each visit! I just wish the office would be closer to home. 🙂 But it's worth the drive! Everyone is so nice and it puts me at ease for the treatment provided. I'm able to make appointments when needed on my busy schedule. There is very little wait time in the office, even when I arrive early they are able to fit me in earlier than my scheduled time and I'm impressed with the followup call after each appointment. I would highly recommend them. GREAT JOB!

I had 2 dental implants, one of which had to be redone, so I saw Dr. Cohen and his staff for several visits over a 2 year period. Everyone was friendly and professional and I knew I was in good hands. I never felt like I was being rushed, or that I was not being well cared for. I would recommend this office to anyone needing oral surgery of any kind. Thank you!

I was surprized because I left with no pain - swelling was down immediately and bleeding was very minimal. I took one low dose Ibuprofen ahead of the surgical procedure and never needed additional pain medication, which was appreciated. - understanding in my case there were no complications during the surgery procedure.

Doctor Cohen was recommended by my friends as one of the best in the area for implant placement and I completely agree with this statement. The 21st century technology is used in the office like for example 3D computer guide simulation. The staff is very friendly. All appointments were scheduled at my convenient times.

I was referred to Dr. Cohen by my personal dentist of 20 years because I needed to begin the implant process for an upper molar that had cracked and had to be extracted. I am in day four of my recovery from the initial step of placing the post in my upper gum, and I must say I am pleased with the fact that I have had little to no swelling and very little pain. I've managed any minor discomfort with Motrin only. Overall a very uncomfortable situation was "not bad at all" given the procedure I was facing. I do have a complaint -- re: insurance coverage. I think the dental insurances that I carry (I pay for two of them) should better communicate with me, and the Office Staff about what is covered and what is not. Initially I was given an estimate that I would have complete coverage with little if any out of pocket cost based on both insurances. Then suddenly MetLife backs out and inserts a "non-duplication clause" conveniently to avert any responsibility for payment. And Delta Dental only pays for just less than half of all costs associated with the procedure. I understand now why dental insurance companies are housed in such big, beautiful offices -- courtesy of my premiums. And I still have to pay out of pocket for over half of the total costs! Very discouraging. Anyway I would highly recommend Dr. Cohen. He did an outstanding job on my implant placement within the parameters of these initial steps. So far so good.

A fantastic job - firstly doing a tooth extraction then a sinus lift/augmentation. I was looked after extremely well by Jeffrey and the nursing staff and the procedure was much less painful than I expected. No side effects. No infection. No nosebleeds or black eyes either - a bonus! All healing nicely and I will return for the last surgery in a few months time. I would definitely recommend this service on all levels - and I came from the UK to have this done! Thanks you Jeffrey and Lakes Oral.
