Pre-Prosthetic Surgery | West Bloomfield, MI
The preparation of your mouth before the placement of a prosthesis is referred to as pre-prosthetic surgery.
Some patients require minor oral surgical procedures before receiving a partial or complete denture, in order to ensure the maximum level of comfort. A denture sits on the bone ridge, so it is very important that the bone is the proper shape and size. If a tooth needs to be extracted , the underlying bone might be left sharp and uneven. For the best fit of a denture, the bone might need to be smoothed out or reshaped. Occasionally, excess bone would need to be removed prior to denture insertion.
One or more of the following procedures might need to be performed in order to prepare your mouth for a denture:
- Bone smoothing and reshaping
- Removal of excess bone
- Bone ridge reduction
- Removal of excess gum tissue
- Exposure of impacted teeth

Appreciated the office pandemic protocols and precautions. I felt as safe as I could be receiving services during the pandemic we are experiencing.

My dental experience was excellent. Everyone was very accommodating, especially, Stacey, Melissa and Mala. Due to numerous other health issues I have, it was necessary for me to reschedule this appt. a few times e. Everyone was very patient with me and scheduled immediately for another appt. I really appreciate that kindness, as many offices do not understanding my disabling circumstances. Thank you everyone for making a rather traumatic experience go so well and I am happy report at this time that things are going much better than expected. God Bless You All!

Dr Cohen and all of his staff are wonderful. They are very kind, empathetic, and compassionate. Dr Cohen took all the time I needed to make sure I understood all of my options, he consulted with my dentist so that we were all on the same page with regards to my plan. Mala was extremely kind with me as I was going through my procedure. Maria worked with my insurance company to make sure that they covered everything I was entitled to, making my procedure very affordable. I can't thank Dr Cohen and his staff enough for their very personal care.

First visit with my son, who was understandably nervous. The staff was great and answered every question he had.

Everyone very nice and professional. Made sure I was comfortable and understood everything that was going on. Dr was the greatest. I had 6 teeth extracted and very surprised that I was in a lot less pain then expected. Office called next day to see how I was doing and to make sure if there were any problems to call. I would definately used this service again.

My dentist referred me to Dr. Cohen to extract my tooth which was half broken off. Unfortunately, I got tied up in a new job and did not make an appointment right away. My tooth began to hurt and it went into my jaw line and into upper teeth as well. The pain was unbearable. Stayed up all night with the pain. Called Dr. Cohen's office to schedule an appointment at the end of the month. When I told the staff member the amount of pain I was in, they scheduled me to come in that very afternoon. Dr. Cohen and his staff are wonderful. I am so thankful to them!
